Kiva 30, Semi-Matt Furniture Lacquer

Description

Waterborne, low-odour, non-yellowing tintable acrylate lacquer for use on dry interior wood surfaces.

Product features

Single pack waterbased acrylic lacquer for use on dry interior wood surfaces according to instructions for use. Kiva Furniture Lacquer can also be used for protective lacquering of painted and stained surfaces. Not suitable for use on floors (use Parketti-Ässä Floor Lacquer for lacquering floors).

Recommended uses

Furniture like tables, chairs, bookshelves, toys and panelled walls, wooden ceilings, doors and similar wood surfaces. Suitable also for protective lacquering of painted and stained surfaces.

Drying time at 23°C and 50% relative air humidity

Dust dry in approx. 1/2 hour and recoatable after 2-3 hours. Ready to use the following day. The lacquered surface will reach final hardness after approx. 2 weeks. Hard stress, cleaning and placing of sticking and hot objects on the lacquered surface should be avoided during this time.

Chemical resistance

Resists cleaning chemicals and weak solvents e.g. white spirit. Spillage of coffee, tea etc. should be wiped off immediately.
Resists well oils and greases.

APPLICATION DETAILS

Application conditions

The surface to be painted must be dry, the temperature of the air at least +10 ºC, and the relative humidity of the air 30 - 80 %.

Preparation

New wood surface:
Clean the surface from dirt and dust. Wet with clean water so as to expose loose wood fibres, allow to dry and sand down. Remove sanding dust.
Previously lacquered surface:
Wash the surface with Maalipesu Cleaning Agent and rinse carefully with water. Sand the surface matt. Completely remove existing coatings that are in poor condition with paint removal agent or by sanding. Treat like new wood surface.

Lacquering

Stir Kiva Furniture Lacquer thoroughly before and during use. Thin with water, if necessary. Apply by brush, sponge or spray 2-3 times. If you use a tinted product, make a trial lacquering first on a separate piece of wood to be sure of the right colour. The final colour will depend upon the timber species, i.e. original colour and hardness and number of coats applied. Thin the tinted lacquer with approx. 20-30% water for the first coat. The chosen colour and gloss level will normally be achieved after the application of two coats. Always treat the whole surface without interruption and on large panel surfaces few boards at a time to avoid overlapping.

Cleaning of tools

Clean with water immediately after use. Tikkurila Pensselipesu (Tool Cleaner) is recommended to be used for cleaning hardened paint from tools.

Maintenance instructions

Cleaning earliest approx. 2 weeks after application, if needed.
The surfaces are cleaned with a soft brush, damp cleaning cloth or sponge and neutral (pH 6-8) washing detergent. The surface may not remain wet. Very dirty surfaces can be cleaned with a slightly alkaline (pH 8-10) detergent using e.g. a cleaning cloth or sponge. Rinse the surface carefully.

Maintenance treatment

Surfaces lacquered with Kiva Furniture Lacquer can be maintenance lacquered with same type of waterborne lacquer. See preparation.
