Description

Alkyd-oil paint for sawn and planed wooden surfaces, as well as for untreated, industrially primed or previously with oil paint treated wooden surfaces outdoors according to directions for use.

Drying time at 23°C and 50% relative air humidity

The painted surface is dry after approx. 24 hours. Apply next coat preferably a few days after priming. Drying is affected by the thickness of the paint film, the temperature and the relative humidity of the air and ventilation.

Weather resistance

Fading is a characteristic of oil paint, and weathering will roughen the surface over time, reducing its resistance to dirt. This will make the oil-painted surface more susceptible to mold. Regular washing will prevent mold on the surface.
Moisture does not dry as quickly on structures in the shade, such as soffits or north-facing walls, which makes them more prone to mold.

Storage

Unaffected either by cold storage or transportation. Poorly closed or short canisters do not endure long storing.

APPLICATION DETAILS

Application conditions

The surface to be painted must be dry, the temperature of the air at least +5°C, and the relative humidity of the air below 80 % during painting and drying of the surface. Time the painting so that the paint film has enough time to dry before the evening dew, since the condensing moisture causes dimming of the fresh paint film.

Preparation

Unpainted surfaces:
Remove dirt, mould and loose material from untreated surfaces. Prime surfaces as soon as possible with Valtti Base (Pohjuste) or Valtti Akvabase priming oil. Protect rusting metal parts such as nail heads with Rostex Metal Primer. Remove loose resin from knots.

Previously painted surfaces:
Remove loose paint and greyed wood from previously painted surfaces with a scraper and brush the surface with a steel brush. Wash down dirty and mouldy surfaces with Mould Removal (Homeenpoisto) solution according to directions for use. Treat bare wooden surfaces with Valtti Base (Pohjuste) or Valtti Akvabase priming oil.

Painting

Reserve enough paint for one uniform surface, and stir into one canister to avoid possible colour differences. Stir Teho well before use. Apply by brush. Prime with Öljypohja Oil Primer or with Teho Oil Paint thinned 5 % with Alkyd Thinner 2010. Finish with unthinned Teho, preferably a few days after priming. The finishing paint can be thinned with Alkyd Thinner 2010, if necessary. Apply liberally and carefully on end-grain.

There is resin and other coloring extractives in the wood, particularly in knots. They may cause discoloration or seepage of resin through the paint surface as a result of temperature and humidity fluctuations.

Maintenance painting:
Teho can be maintenance painted with Teho, Ultra or Pika-Teho

Cleaning of tools

Clean tools with Tikkurila Pensselipesu (Tool Cleaner) or with White Spirit 1050.

Maintenance instructions

Handle the surface with care, ultimate durability and hardness is reached in approx. 4 weeks under normal circumstances. If a cleansing is needed, use a soft brush, a mop or a damp cleaning cloth. At the earliest after 1 month from the painting a soiled surface can be cleansed with Huoltopesu (1 part of Huoltopesu to 10 parts of water). Clean stains and dirty surfaces with a mix of Huoltopesu and water (1:1). Rinse well and allow to dry.
